My Completely Biased Review of Proofread Anywhere

I think I saw an ad on Facebook or Instagram about Proofread Anywhere. I was starting to really feel the burnout from being an SLP and was yearning for something different to do. Seeing the ad piqued my interest as I've always enjoyed finding and correcting errors. I signed up for and watched the free 76-minute workshop immediately, then busted out the credit card to enroll in the General Proofreading: Theory & Practice and Transcript Proofreading: Theory & Practice. I was so excited to get started on what I hoped would be my second career.
I started with the General Proofreading: Theory & Practice, thinking I would breeze right through. I was always great with grammar, spelling, and punctuation; however, I did, at least, suspect I tended to overuse commas. Quickly I started to notice that what I was learning now was not the same as what I learned growing up. Wait, you mean it's acceptable to end a sentence with a preposition? And apparently there are way more prepositions than just those that relate to a box. Who knew? I loved that I was being challenged with all this new information, even though it slowed down my progress.
When it came time for the final exam, I was confident that I would pass on my first attempt. Let's just say that the final exam was a humbling experience that almost reduced me to tears. It took more tries than I care to admit, but each attempt taught me more about my technique and about myself--to slow down, reduce distractions, stop second guessing, and don't give up. I eventually passed the exam at 96%!
Now I'm working on Transcript Proofreading: Theory & Practice. Trust me when I say that proofreading the spoken word is more challenging than you'd expect. When I started on the practice transcripts, I felt lost. Searching in our Facebook group, I learned that supplemental instruction was needed and decided to purchase the textbook and accompanying workbook Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells. I have 10 practice lessons to finish proofing, and I cannot recommend this resource enough to really solidify the rules and concepts for proofreading court transcripts.
My experience with Proofread Anywhere has been entirely positive. To me, the cost is absolutely worth the expense, especially the continual support during and after taking the courses. (Caitlyn Pyle's Money Mindset Transformation course was a totally challenged and changed the way I view and value money.) The members in these groups are incredibly helpful and supportive of each other, and I've never come across any negativity. I know there are others courses out there, but I cannot speak to the quality as I've done ZERO research.
